DIGI Spain (DIGI), the DIGI Communications Group’s telecommunications operator in Spain, surpassed the 3-million mark for fiber customers this Tuesday.
With this achievement, DIGI —which had already established itself as the third-largest national operator by broadband customer numbers as of last June, according to data from the National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC)— solidifies its market position.
Reflecting this figure and the operator's growth trajectory, the number of fiber customers has multiplied eightfold over the past five years and risen by more than 141% in the last three years.
Consequently, DIG I—whose SMART fiber network reaches 14.84 million households— has reached a total of 12 million active services as of September.
For the operator, this figure represents another step toward its goal of making connectivity accessible to all by providing high-quality service, advanced technology, and competitive prices. This is underpinned by robust investment in the rollout of state-of-the-art, ultra-fast fiber-optic networks and its own mobile network.
Since entering the Spanish market in 2008, DIGI has pursued a strategy centered on listening to its customers and improving services based on their actual needs; this milestone confirms that the approach is resonating well with them. A clear example of these improvements is the recent speed upgrade—from 1 Gbps to 2 Gbps at no extra cost—launched by the operator last August; this allows customers to enjoy double the speed for the same price of 20 euros per month.
Service Quality
Furthermore, DIGI’s milestone of surpassing 3 million broadband customers is also driven by its commitment to delivering superior service quality. This is evidenced by Ookla® recognizing the SMART fiber network as "Spain's fastest fiber network" for five consecutive years. It is also reflected in the network's low latency—which enhances the browsing experience for streaming, online gaming, and video conferencing—and the deployment of XGS-PON technology, which now covers 95% of the company's network footprint in Spain.
According to Marius Varzaru, CEO of DIGI Spain: "Surpassing the 3-million broadband customer mark reaffirms our mission to make connectivity accessible to everyone in Spain through an offering that combines cutting-edge technology and high quality at competitive prices. It also serves as a testament to the trust our customers place in us, motivating us to keep working to provide them with the best connectivity."
Job Growth
The operator—already the second-largest employer in the sector—conducts all business operations using its own workforce, offering job stability and fostering career development plans for all employees. DIGI currently employs over 11,900 people in Spain.
